What is Weird Art & History?
I hate pompous art with a passion. I simply just want to show you the weird confusing wondrous side of art. Museums are not for the rich, they are for the curious. This newsletter is that curiosity written down and documented. This newsletter will show you a different perspective on art that you’ve never seen before. Think of it as a trip to Alice in Wonderland, the wacky and new are promised to be explored.
This newsletter is a passion child of an overzealous art history student. There will be rants, arguments, controversial art opinions, and of course loads of sarcasm.
About Payton
I grew up in the center of Iowa. No, not in a cornfield but in the metropolis of Des Moines (pop. 212,000). Currently, I am a student at Drake University studying Art History (duh) and Public Relations.
Why art history? I’ve always been surrounded by art. Growing up I was taken to voice lessons, acting camps, and was encouraged to show my artistic side. The plethora of art showed me all the ways art could be appreciated, and the true talent it takes to master art. I don’t desire to be the artist - I just want to be inside their mind.
Ok then, but why PR? Honestly, I’m not so sure. True story, I impulsively added PR to my application because I admired JJ from criminal minds. Now I love PR, and I actually know what it is!
Truly, my passion is to show others how cool art can be. Barriers against art have scared away many who think art is only for the rich to enjoy. I want to show that art is accessible and inclusive to everyone.
Outside of my majors, I think I’m a pretty cool guy. I’m obsessed with the NYT mini — my record solve is 29 seconds. I’m also pretty good at chess. one of my weirder hobbies is my “rock” collection. I have lost count of the number of crystals I’ve collected. I can tell you how rose quarts will affect your love life if you put them under your pillow. Or how tigers eye can help you nail that job interview.
Fall Down The Rabbit Hole!
As I said, art history is like the world in Alice and Wonderland. Follow the rabbit and you’ll see all kinds of peculiar things. If you're falling down the hole, might as well bring a friend.
(Yes I am the rabbit)
